Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 28, 2026 · TrafficJam LLC · Mississippi, USA
TrafficJam™ is built on a simple promise: your conversations are ephemeral. When the jam clears, your messages disappear. We collect only what is necessary to make the app work.
1. Who We Are
TrafficJam™ is operated by TrafficJam LLC, a Mississippi limited liability company. The app connects drivers stuck in the same traffic jam so they can communicate in real time. All messages are automatically deleted when the jam clears.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what is strictly necessary to provide the service:
- Nickname: The name or alias you choose when you join. We do not require your real name.
- Location data: Your GPS coordinates are used to find and report nearby traffic jams and verify you are physically near a jam. Location is used in real time and is not stored permanently after your session ends.
- Messages: Chat messages you send within a jam. These are stored temporarily in Firebase and automatically deleted when the jam clears or after 30 minutes, whichever comes first.
- Jam reports: If you report a traffic jam, the GPS coordinates of the jam location, cause, severity, and lane information you provide are stored so other users can see the jam.
- Usage data: Basic anonymized data such as points, badges, and activity streaks stored locally on your device. This data does not leave your device unless you are connected to a jam.
3. Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect your real name
- We do not collect your email address
- We do not collect your phone number
- We do not directly collect or store payment information (all subscription billing is handled by Apple or Google)
- We do not collect device identifiers or advertising IDs
- We do not track you across other apps or websites
- We do not sell your data to any third party
- We do not use your data for advertising purposes
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected solely to provide the TrafficJam™ service:
- To find and report nearby active traffic jams based on your location
- To verify you are physically near a jam when you join a chat
- To deliver real-time messages between users in the same jam
- To display jam reports, severity ratings, and road conditions to other users
- To automatically delete messages when a jam clears
- To manage your subscription status and verify access to the app
5. Subscriptions and Payments
TrafficJam™ is available as a paid subscription at $5.99 per year with an optional free trial period. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) depending on your device. TrafficJam LLC does not directly collect, store, or have access to your credit card number, billing address, or other payment details.
We use RevenueCat, Inc. as a subscription management platform. RevenueCat receives anonymized transaction data from Apple and Google to help us verify your subscription status. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, or payment details. You can review RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's App Store or Google Play settings.
6. Data Storage and Retention
- Messages: Automatically deleted after 30 minutes or when the jam is cleared by community vote, whichever comes first
- Jam records: Deleted when marked inactive
- Location data: Used in real time only and not retained after your session
- Your nickname and preferences: Stored locally on your device only and never transmitted to our servers except when you are actively in a jam
- Subscription status: Managed by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat. We store only whether your subscription is active, not your payment details
We use Google Firebase Realtime Database to store temporary jam and message data. Firebase is operated by Google LLC and subject to Google's privacy policy.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties except:
- Firebase (Google LLC): Our database provider stores temporary jam and message data as described above
- RevenueCat, Inc.: Our subscription management platform receives anonymized transaction data from Apple and Google to verify your subscription status
- Apple / Google: Your device's app store handles all subscription billing and payment processing
- Emergency situations: If you use the SOS feature, your GPS coordinates are shared within the jam chat with nearby drivers. The SOS feature also provides a direct link to call 911. We do not automatically transmit your information to emergency services.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users
8. Children's Privacy
TrafficJam™ is intended exclusively for licensed drivers aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe someone under 18 has used the app or provided information through it, please contact us at trafficjamsupport@proton.me and we will delete any associated data promptly.
9. Your Rights
Because we collect minimal data and most of it is ephemeral by design, there is very little persistent data associated with you. You may:
- Clear your local app data at any time through your device settings
- Stop using location services by revoking location permission in your device settings
- Manage or cancel your subscription through your device's App Store or Google Play settings
- Contact us to request deletion of any data we may hold associated with your session
10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, contact us at the address below.
11. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the information we collect. All data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS. Our Firebase database uses Google's security infrastructure. Because messages are ephemeral and we collect minimal identifying information, the risk associated with any potential breach is substantially limited.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy as the app evolves. We will update the effective date at the top of this page when changes are made. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
